The toy rotation

Every toy in the basket, all the time, is how toys become invisible. A dog's delight runs on novelty, and novelty is a renewable resource if you manage the supply.

The system: keep roughly a third of the collection shelved and out of sight. Every week, swap the shelf and the basket. The retired octopus comes back a celebrity; the worn-out shark leaves for a spa week. Nothing new was purchased, and the basket reads as restocked.

Wash day slots neatly into the swap. Our plush is machine washable — a cycle resets the smell, fluffs the fur and quietly extends a toy's career. Rubber treat balls rinse clean even faster. Wash the outgoing shift, shelve them dry, and the rotation runs itself.

The audit matters too: rotation day is inspection day. Check seams, squeakers and any structural damage from last week's campaigns, and retire casualties without sentiment. A basket of sound, rotating, freshly washed toys will out-entertain a mountain of forgotten ones.
